CDM Coordinator Appointment

The early appointment of a CDM Coordinator enables procedures to be put in place which get the project of to a good start.

The appointment of the CDM Coordinator should take place once the initial design has begun, once the project moves to the detailed design stage hazards become a lot more difficult to deal with and eliminate.

The aim of the regulations is for the CDM coordinator to make a significant contribution to reducing risks both to workers during the construction phase and the end users, also those that work on the project in the future.

The CDM Coordinator and the

Construction Phase

During the construction phase the design will often continue, therefore the CDM Coordinator has a continuing role during the construction. Any changes that have health and safety implications should be raised with the principal contractor.

The Health and Safety File

The CDM Coordinator has a duty to prepare the health and safety file. Ideally the format should be agreed with the client prior to work commencing and also which duty holders are to supply the information.

At the end of a project the health and safety file is handed over to the client.
